Lumberyard Arts Center

The Lumberyard Arts Center, Inc. is the cornerstone for visual and performing arts in our community.

The Lumberyard Arts Center is where art and community come together. Located in a renovated lumberyard in the heart of Downtown Baldwin City, the arts center hosts rotating gallery exhibits and a variety of events and classes in a unique historic setting. Annual events include Third Friday Artwalks June through September; Bluegrass & BBQ in the fall; and the Chocolate Auction on the Sunday before Valentine’s Day. Community members and visitors of all ages will find the cornerstone building a grand gathering place full of friendly folks, fun activities, and art!

The Lumberyard Arts Center is the perfect gathering place for a wide range of wedding events, from receptions to rehearsal dinners to showers. Situated along the brick streets of Downtown Baldwin City, we are a historic lumberyard renovated into a unique and elegant arts center and special event space. One block from Baker University and adjacent to the Tom Swam Garden, our venue features towering ceilings, a catering kitchen, and a bubbling fountain right outside our doors. Contact Coordinator Wendy Conover for more details. We’d love to be a part of your wedding!

  1. As a local artist who volunteers in the Free Summer Art program I can tell you that LAC is built off of a passionate and adventurous community. Baldwin City locals are open to experiences and incredibly giving. When locals arrive at the Center, they seize every summer and annual opportunity that Baldwin has to offer. Revolving the recent mural creations, Baldwin is the perfect location to feature these artistic works. The city’s history and endless opportunities for positive messages will lead to great success for years to come.

  2. I frequent the open studio and am a devoted LAC volunteer. I first found passion for the arts through childhood experiences with music and graphics. I then retired from a thirty year teaching career and finally found time to further develop my abilities through art classes. The organization has now become the center of my social life and I cherish the incredible friendships that have developed from a pure love for the arts. The LAC community is unlike any other through the group’s countless support and and love within any situation.

  3. I am a class instructor at the Lumberyard Arts Center and I volunteer at the Free Summer Art program. The local class offerings within the LAC provide incredible, one-of-a kind experiences to students. I would love for everyone to be aware that Lumberyard instructors are volunteering their time and supplies, simply because they love art and the community. Additionally, I feel that it’s incredibly important for children, as well as adults to have every possible opportunity to express their creativity while learning to think “outside of the box”. Most importantly, I would love for the Baldwin community to find avenues of creativity, fun, and education directly within their hometown.
